What a full central heating installation covers
A full central heating installation is the whole system, not one appliance. It covers the boiler, the pipework that distributes heat, the radiators that emit it, the controls that decide when and how much, and the commissioning and balancing that make the parts behave as a single system. Done properly, it is designed: the heat requirement of each room is considered, the radiators are specified to meet it, and the pipework is sized to deliver the flow those radiators need.
This is the service for properties with no existing wet heating system, for homes where an ageing system has reached the point where replacing it piece by piece is no longer sensible, and for renovations and extensions where the heating has to be reworked anyway. It is also the honest answer when a boiler replacement alone will not solve the problem, because the real issue is undersized pipework, radiators that were never right for the rooms, or a system that has been extended repeatedly without anyone revisiting the design.
Dan and Dean are Gas Safe registered under company registration 552490, and both are Vaillant Advance Installers. The team is a family one: their sons Owen and Jack work in the business alongside them, so the people who survey the job are the people who carry it out.
You usually know when you need this rather than a repair. Some rooms never get warm however long the heating runs. Radiators are cold at the bottom or need bleeding constantly. The system takes an hour to feel like anything. Pipework is a patchwork of different eras, and every fix reveals another problem behind it. At that point, money spent on the system as a whole goes considerably further than money spent on its symptoms.
Professional design and installation matter because a heating system is the most expensive thing in a house to get wrong quietly. It will run for decades. Every inefficiency: a radiator that is too small, a pump fighting undersized pipework, an unbalanced circuit sending most of the flow to the nearest rooms, is paid for in every heating bill for as long as the system exists.

Why it matters
The cost of patching instead of replacing
Systems that are past their design life rarely fail cleanly. They deteriorate: one cold radiator, then a noisy pump, then a leak on an old joint, then a boiler lockout. Each individual repair looks reasonable in isolation. Added together over two or three winters they often exceed the cost of installing the system properly, and at the end of it you still have the old system.
Meanwhile the running cost sits on every bill. An unbalanced system overheats the rooms nearest the boiler while the far end never arrives. Sludge and corrosion inside old steel and copper reduce flow and block heat exchangers, so the boiler burns gas producing heat that never reaches the rooms you are trying to warm.
There is a fabric cost too. Rooms that never get properly warm are the rooms that develop condensation and damp problems, particularly in older properties with solid walls and modest ventilation. Cold bedrooms and bathrooms are not just uncomfortable, they are where mould appears.
And the disruption is worse when it is forced. A planned installation happens on a date you chose, with the rooms prepared. An emergency one happens in January with no heating in the house while it is carried out.
Common mistakes we're called in to fix
- Replacing the boiler alone when the pipework and radiators are the actual constraint
- Adding radiators to an existing circuit without checking the system can carry the extra load
- Reusing old system water and sludge, which damages the new appliance from the first day
- Leaving the system unbalanced, so near rooms cook and far rooms stay cold
- Fitting modern controls but never setting them up beyond the factory defaults

Benefits
What a designed system delivers
Every room warm, not just the near ones
Radiators specified for each room and the system balanced so heat is distributed instead of concentrated.
Faster warm-up
Correctly sized pipework and a clean circuit mean the house responds when the heating comes on rather than half an hour later.
Lower bills for the same comfort
A designed, balanced, well-controlled system wastes less of the gas you pay for.
Fewer call-outs
New pipework, clean system water and correct commissioning remove most of the causes of the faults that plague old systems.
Gas Safe registered throughout
All gas work carried out under company registration 552490 by individually Gas Safe registered engineers.
One team, start to finish
A family business: the people who survey and price the work are the people who install it.
In detail
System design, materials and the decisions that matter
The detail below is what separates a heating system that works from one that merely runs. It is all settled at survey.
Sizing the system to the property
Heat loss varies room by room with orientation, glazing, insulation, ceiling height and the number of external walls. A north-facing bedroom above a garage loses heat very differently from an internal room on the first floor. Sizing radiators against those differences is what produces a house that is evenly warm; sizing them by eye is what produces the one room everyone avoids in winter. The boiler is then specified to the total demand, with a margin for hot water, rather than being chosen first and worked around.
Sealed systems and open-vented systems
Modern installations are usually sealed and pressurised, with an expansion vessel and filling loop and no tanks in the loft. Older open-vented systems rely on a feed and expansion cistern. Converting from open-vented to sealed as part of a full installation removes the loft tanks, frees up space, reduces the risk of a loft leak and generally improves performance, but it touches the pipework and controls as well as the boiler, which is why it belongs in a planned installation rather than a boiler swap.
Pipework and materials
Copper and modern plastic barrier pipe both have their place: copper where pipework is exposed or needs mechanical robustness, plastic where it is being run through floors and joists over long distances. What matters more than the material is the diameter. Undersized pipework strangles flow no matter how good the boiler is, and it is the most common reason a far-end radiator never performs. Pipe routes are planned around the floors, joists and finishes in your house so that making good afterwards is realistic.
Radiators, valves and balancing
Radiator output depends on surface area and flow temperature, and thermostatic radiator valves let each room hold its own level rather than every room following the hall. Balancing, setting the flow through each radiator so that the ones furthest from the boiler get their share, is the step that is most often skipped and makes the most visible difference. We balance every system we install as part of commissioning.
Controls and zoning
A programmer, a room thermostat and TRVs are the minimum worth having. Larger houses benefit from zoning, so that upstairs and downstairs can be heated on different schedules rather than heating empty bedrooms all evening. Controls only save money if they are set up for how the household actually lives, which is part of what we go through at handover.
Cleaning, inhibitor and filtration
New systems are flushed and dosed with inhibitor to slow corrosion, and where an existing system is being partly retained, cleaning is essential rather than optional. A magnetic filter catches circulating debris before it reaches the boiler and is straightforward to clean at each annual service.

Common questions
Straight answers,

Still unsure? Call Dan on 07930 686788.
- How much does a full central heating installation cost?
- It varies with the size of the property, the number of radiators, how much pipework has to be run and the boiler specified. We survey, design the system and give you a written estimate, free, with no call-out fee and no obligation.
- How long does it take?
- A full installation is a multi-day job in most properties, depending on the number of radiators and how much pipework has to be run through floors. The expected duration is set out in the written estimate before you commit.
- Will you have to lift floors?
- Some pipework runs need access to floors. We plan routes at survey to keep that to a minimum, tell you in advance where access is needed, and protect and make good as we go.
- Can I keep my existing radiators?
- Sometimes. If they are sound and correctly sized for their rooms there may be no reason to replace them. Where they are undersized, that is usually the reason those rooms never get warm, and we will say so at survey rather than installing a new boiler around the same problem.
- Do I need to be without heating while the work is done?
- There are periods during the installation when the system is down. We plan the work to keep that as short as practical and tell you what to expect before starting, which is one reason a planned installation beats an emergency one.
- Are you Gas Safe registered?
- Yes, company registration number 552490. Dan, Dean, Owen and Jack are all on the Gas Safe Register, and Dan and Dean are Vaillant Advance Installers.
- What guarantee is included?
- A 1-year workmanship guarantee on everything we install, in addition to the manufacturer's warranty on the boiler and equipment.
- Are you insured and accredited?
- We hold £5m public liability and £10m employers' liability insurance, and we are a Checkatrade member with Constructionline Gold accreditation.
- Which areas do you install in?
- Maidstone and the surrounding areas, including Rochester, Aylesford, Larkfield, Snodland, West Malling, Kings Hill, Gillingham, Strood and Sittingbourne.
